Evolving Fields: Sensoriality, Imagination and Memory in the Humanities. PG Conference 6th and 7th June 2017, Queen’s University, Belfast

We are pleased to announce the next PG conference organised by students of the School of History, Anthropology, Politics and Philosophy at Queen’s University Belfast with the support of the Graduate School.

The conference will assess how sensorial perception, imagination, and memory enrich our disciplines. Attentive to the direction research in the humanities is taking, the conference will try and assess how recent trending themes have inspired young researchers.

Aimed at postgraduate students, current PhD candidates and academic staff from different disciplines in the humanities, the event will provide a great chance to present and discuss their latest work in a welcoming and supportive environment.

We welcome proposals for presentations of research from all disciplines within the arts and humanities. We are particularly looking forward to proposals for performances.

The conference will also offer the chance to further enhance post graduate research skills, providing a number of keynote workshops. The programme for the workshops will be released soon.

Call for Papers

We would like to invite papers for presentations and performances of any nature related to the themes. We are interested in your proposal if your research is related to or addresses the following questions:

• How have sensorial experiences, both yours and those of your participants, shaped your research? How does the sensorial realm contribute in your field of studies?
• What is the role of imagination in current research in your academic discipline? How can imagination drive human experience?
• How has memory informed your research as a tool and/or as an object of study? How much is memory when carrying out research in the humanities?
• Have you adopted an unconventional research method? How has this contributed to your research findings?

The conference is organised with the support of the School of History, Anthropology, Politics and Philosophy and the Graduate School.

Formats of presentations/performances

Individual papers 

20 minutes for presentation/performance followed by a 10 minute question and answer session.

Performances

Each performance should be no longer than 30-45 minutes.

The total number of performances will be limited due to time constraints.

Submission

For individual papers: a 300 word abstract, a 150 word biography including institutional affiliation, proposed format and contact details.

For performances: a 300 word summary, including a recording or programme details. For workshops please include how many individuals you are willing to accommodate.

Deadline for submission: 5.00pm (GMT), Saturday 1^st April 2017.

Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their proposal by 15^th April 2017. Those selected will be asked to confirm their acceptance. The full programme, abstracts, and further details about the conference will be published on the website and via email at a later date.
